Way back, when I was going through a stressful time, my body began to ache. The fatigue and pain in my bones became so debilitating I felt about as useful as a sandwich toaster on a pedalo.

Energy levels dropped as swiftly as a rat down a drainpipe and I would sleep for a whole day; occasionally even two.

When life becomes over busy and/or stressful it's normal to experience symptoms of stress.

Just getting dressed and making something to eat was sometimes all I could manage, so I’d work at my desk in pyjamas, which made me feel even worse.

It reached a point where even going for a short walk was sometimes too painful.

I was exhausted most of the time, my appetite and weight were out of control, and I didn’t feel remotely good about the way I looked or felt.

It was clear, if I didn’t seek advice, the symptoms would only keep getting worse.

Finding the right person to help isn't easy, is it?!

The diagnoses kept stacking up: a leaky gut, candida, fibromyalgia; also Hashimoto’s Thyroid Disease and Pernicious Anaemia.

Symptoms included brain fog and blurred vision, which made it impossible to concentrate.

I'd given up looking for a health professional to help me heal naturally, and remained stuck in a hole as deep as a politician’s expenses drawer.

Whatever happened, no way was I going to wear that list of conditions as a badge of honour.

Trying to find answers was as frustrating as teaching granny to connect a phone to WiFi and it became clear that it was down to me to either do my own research or continue feeling rubbish.

After 6 months of unpleasant symptoms, I was booked in for a colonoscopy and to see a consultant surgeon who - with the results to hand - explained how I had a few ulcers in my terminal ileum which were an indicator of early Crohn's.

I asked him not to name the condition in my medical notes because I was going straight home to get rid of it. Haha.

Back at my desk, I typed 'How do you reverse Crohn’s’ into a search engine and started reading.

A lot.

Before long I was designing a simple way of eating and listened to my body during the following weeks. If a particular food created an 'episode' I would consider why and ensure I steered clear. It wasn't difficult, although a little hit and miss at the start.

The ulcers disappeared within 10 weeks - never to return.  

Towards the end of the healing phase, life took me to an event where I met someone who introduced me to a fascinating physician.
